Seth Cohen -- Seth is socially
awkward, a bit of a smart alleck and, despite his best efforts to
appear
otherwise, full of longing. He has lived in Newport Beach all
his life, living a great fancy lifestyle. Seth has lived next door to
Marissa since he was young, but has just recently started to get to
know
her. He is quickly becoming good friends with Ryan. Some people see him
as sarcastic. From the outside it
looks like Seth has it all but, like his father, he senses there is
something else out there .... and he yearns for it.

Ryan
Atwood -- Ryan was arrested with his brother for
stealing a car. His mother then kicked him out of the house. He is
currently in the custody of and living with his lawyer, Sandy Cohen,
and the Cohen family. Ryan sees the world of Newport Beach through the
eyes of an outsider. He is quickly becoming Seth's best friend, and
Marissa's love interest. Ever since he arrived at Newport Beach, he has
had eyes for Marissa. He comes off to be shy, but will stand up
for himself and his friends. He
is a good friend and can be trusted.

Marissa
Cooper -- Her mother recently wed Seth's powerful grandfather Caleb.
She does not get along with Julie (her mother). Her father is Jimmy
Cooper. She lives with him right now, but soon might be living with
Caleb and Julie. She used to date Luke Ward, until he cheated on her.
She has since been on and off with Ryan Atwood. She sometimes gets
depressed and parties heavily, but is learning to lean out of her
terrible habit. She gets along well with her father, but her and her
mother do not get along at all. She's had a lot of terrible things
happen to her and always seems to be struggling with some issue or
another.

Summer Roberts
-- Exuding brash self-confidence and a sly sexuality, Summer
always speaks her mind, always gets what she wants, and never has any
regrets. Best friend of Marissa, she is the long-time object of Seth Cohen's unwavering affection. At
first, she thought of him as a dork and didn't even bother looking at
him. But recently, she realized how much she did like him when he
starting dating Anna. After they broke things off, she jumped into his
arms and they are now together. She is really close with her father,
even though he is not mentioned hardly at all.

Kirsten
Cohen -- She is a loving mother and an incredibly shrewd and powerful
business woman. She is married to Sandy Cohen and they had one child,
Seth. Kirsten met Sandy while attending Berkeley. Witty, wild and
cool, Sandy brought fun and laughter into Kirsten's life. They lived in
a mail truck, traveling the country, living like true bohemians. Later,
family circumstances drew Kirsten back into her wealthy Newport Beach
family. She is sometimes very submissive, but is learning to speak her
mind more often.

Sandy
Cohen -- Sandy grew up in the Bronx, his dad gone, his mom working all
the time. Sandy came out to California to attend law school at Berkeley. While at Berkeley, he met Kirsten Nichols, a daughter of
privilege. He recently quit his job as a lawyer and opened a restraunt
with friend Jimmy Cooper. He is trying to help Jimmy out with his financial problems. Sandy has recently taken his young client, Ryan Atwood, into
his home. He sees Ryan as being like he was at that age. He is a good man
and husband. He does not get along with his father-in-law, Caleb.
